Gen. 1:1-2 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God MOVED upon the face of the waters. And God said,
Let there be light: and there was light.” (KJV)
“First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God’s Spirit BROODED like a bird above the watery abyss. ( MSG)
So, the earth was formless and without void, and the Spirit of God was brooding and hovering over the face of the waters.
-To brood means to “dwell” upon moodily, to think moodily or anxiously about something
-To hover means to float in the air, linger in one place
Obviously, God was displeased, discontent, unhappy with the state of the world, so he lingered over the face of the waters, thinking on how to effect a change.
Moral: We were created in the image and likeness of God. This means that we created with the ability to see chaos, and birth solutions, and effect changes. To birth solutions however, we must take a cue from our father. We must face the problems and exercise our thinking faculties to birth solutions. Remember, the man with a solution is relevant.
