Faith Does Not Shift Grounds

 

The last 7 weeks has been eventful for me. I started off June resigning at a job I only fully resumed in the month of February. I didn’t resign because I had a better option or had a business to fall back on. I simply followed the leading of my heart knowing that what I decide to let go determines what I’m prepared to let into my life. Initially, I was plagued by fears, how was I going to sort out my bills, fund projects or simply survive? But God!!! Before that month ran out, I received some thousands over what I would have made were I on my job. Hey! I am not campaigning for idleness, the covenant I belong to abhors it, but if I’ve learnt anything from that experience, it is that God is my Source. My Job is not. This revelation in itself is life transforming.

In trusting God for a great job, I’ve come to learn one deep truth and that’s what I want to share with you today. This is the lesson: Faith does not shift grounds. I was washing plates in the kitchen when these words came alive in my spirit. I cannot remember ever hearing these words from someone but since that day, I’ve not stopped thinking about it. More than anything, God wants to be trusted. My Father in faith would say it this way: God’s greatest obsession is to be trusted. It’s easy why. Apart from the fact that he loved you crazily enough to send his (former) only begotten son (now firstborn of many brethren) to die for your sins, through his death, the Father completed/finished everything you’d need for the good life and godliness However, God, the father desires for us to grow in faith so that we can access everything available to us as a result of the birth, death, burial, resurrection of Jesus Christ. Sounds easy enough, right? Think of faith as the hand with which you access the spiritual blessings and translate them into the physical. (I do hope I am coherent enough). The greatest thing any believer can do for himself/herself is to grow in faith.

One way to grow in faith is through studying and meditating on scriptures. In the hilarious and very popular Nigerian movie ’30 days in Atlanta’, a very interesting event was recorded while Akpos and his friend were on their way to Atlanta. While the friend ate anything and everything presented to him by the air hostess, Akpos refused because he thought he had to pay for them, and was not willing to part with money. It was much later that he discovered that with his ticket, he was entitled to all of the goodies he had refused. (And Akpos became hungered and angered for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6, Onome’s Version). He began to request for them, but it was too late. Think of the bible as a constitution, through study, you become aware of your covenant rights and through meditation, revelation and a strong conviction builds up in your spirit which in turn helps you to be bold in prayers (And you do know that when we pray in accordance with God’s will, God can’t deny us right?) When you see- with your physical eyes and with the eyes of your spirit–what is written about you in scriptures and you are fully persuaded in your covenant rights and in the integrity of God, unshakeable faith is produced- Faith that does not give way at the slightest sign of opposition; Faith that thrives and maintains regardless of contrary circumstances; Faith that is not ready to settle for anything below the covenant; Faith that does not shift grounds.

“And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body already dead (since he was about a hundred years old) and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what he had promised, he was also able to perform.

You know the end of this man? Well, today millions call him Father Abraham.

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will eventually happen……and will not settle for anything less!
